CPD: 1 dead after two-vehicle crash near Mt. Pleasant Rd.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – The Chesapeake Police Department is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash early Thursday morning.

According to officials, just before 6 a.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Fentress Airfield Road and Blackwater Road for reports of a vehicle crash. This is near Mt. Pleasant Road.

An investigation revealed that a minivan entered the intersection while traveling westbound, where it was then struck by a small SUV traveling northbound on Fentress Airfield Road.

Police said the driver of the minivan, 71-year-old Patrick Martin, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the the SUV, who was uninjured, remained on the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
