NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A man is hurt and three people have been detained after an incident in Norfolk, police said.

Around 4:20 p.m., police were called to the 500 block of Glenrock Road for the report of a possible hostage/barricade situation. The intersection of Glenrock Road and Poplar Hall Drive was filled with police.

“As soon as I came home, I saw the police present right here, I noticed the street blocked off right here on Glenrock. And then when I got out of the car is when I noticed they were flying drones down the street on Glenrock,” said Jill Walkup, a Norfolk resident.

The Norfolk Police Department confirmed the incident was not a barricade situation. One man was hurt and is expected to recover and three people were detained on scene.

Jill Walkup, who’s lived in Norfolk for nearly four years, says the area is fairly quiet. However, following recent incidents, this does not come as a surprise.

“It’s concerning. It’s scary. There’s been a lot of influx on crime recently, not sure why police haven’t been responding to a lot of our phone calls lately. My car was broken into last Saturday afternoon. The detective never followed up, not sure what’s going on in the area, recently it’s kind of unfortunate because it is a decent area,” Walkup said.

Walkup said her kids frequently play around outside her home, now she’s not so sure that’s a good idea.

“My kids are out here on a daily basis playing around, you know, it makes me not want to let them outside anymore,” said Walkup. “The paranoia has reached its maximum.”

    This investigation is ongoing.
