NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Naval Station Norfolk is set to host a wreath laying ceremony on Wednesday, 23 years after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, which resulted in the deaths of nearly 3,000 people.

The ceremony is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 8 a.m. at the flag plaza across from the Naval Station Norfolk headquarters building, and will include morning colors, the timeline of events, wreath laying and playing of TAPS.

“It is extremely important that we honor and remember those who faced the unimaginable on September 11,” Naval Station Norfolk Commanding Officer Capt. Matt Schlarmann said. “At Naval Station Norfolk, we come together not just to remember, but to reaffirm our commitment to the values and freedoms they defended. This ceremony is a testament to our enduring strength and unity as we pledge to never forget that day and the spirit of resilience it inspired.”
