NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — THRIVE Peninsula is hosting a donation day on Friday the 13th to help stock its frighteningly bare shelves.

In August, the nonprofit served a record-high 2,844 people and maintains a waitlist of families in need of a assistance.

THRIVE provides emergency assistance to families experiencing financial hardship in Newport News, Hampton and York County.

“Each month, our market serves more people than ever before and food is flying off the shelves,” said Angela York THRIVE Peninsula Executive Director . “On Friday the 13 th we are asking the community to donate food items to help us restock so we can continue to serve high volumes of people who rely on us to get through the month because their paycheck just isn’t enough.”

The market is currently in need of the following items: ramen noodles, pancake mix, pancake syrup, canned fruit, baking mixes and condiments. However food donations of any kind are accepted.

Donors can drop off their donations between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. by pulling into the parking circle at THRIVE Peninsula, 12749 Nettles Drive in Newport News.

Monetary donations can be made online at givebutter.com/F13_THRIVEDonationDay .
