HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A vehicle fire on eastbound Interstate 64 caused backups for drivers approaching the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel Wednesday afternoon.

A WAVY viewer stuck in traffic captured video of the vehicle fire.

The Virginia Department of Transportation said drivers could expect delays due to a vehicle fire, at mile marker 265.9 near King Street that shut down all eastbound I-64 lanes, as traffic had been backed up for about two miles.

Currently, all lanes are open, but VDOT traffic cameras show slow moving traffic as of 3:30 p.m.

Drivers heading east to the HRBT can expect more delays due to congestion, with traffic backed up about four miles.

VDOT said the vehicle fire scene had been cleared as of 3:46 p.m.

Drivers for the next five to seven years all highways and bi ways around the seven cities will be under construction. Slow down, pay attention, and it's ok not to be the first one to the light, through the tunnel, and across the bridge. Stay Safe Drivers🚙🚓🛻🚐🚚🚛
