NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – A woman has serious injuries after an auto-pedestrian crash on Chesapeake Boulevard Thursday morning, police said.

According to officials, around 7 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 9000 block of Chesapeake Boulevard in reference to the crash.

Officers arrived to the scene and found a woman with life-threatening injuries. She was transferred to a local hospital, police said.

Photos from the scene show a heavy police presence in the area, with officers investigating a white utility van.

People who live nearby are not surprised by the news of the incident, with one woman saying she’s seen many types of crashes happen in this part of town.

“Yes, I’ve been hit on this road in my car, my husband’s been hit,” Doreea Walters said. “Half a mile from here, where I live, our vehicles have been hit, parked on the road. So has our neighbors.”

The van belongs to International Roofing, a Richmond based company. While the driver did not want to speak on camera, he told WAVY’s Nick Broadway he was just on his way to work when the woman suddenly jumped in front of his van.

Police later allowed the driver to gather his belongings from his work van and walk away with no arrests.

The investigation remains ongoing and no additional information has been released.

People need to cross streets. Vehicle operators need to observe the posted speed limit so pedestrians have time to see them coming. There are too many vehicles driving ten or more miles over the speed limit and checking text messages or.mapping apps on their smartphone.
