    Suspect in James City County road rage incident charged with multiple offenses

    JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — The man accused in Saturday’s James City County road rage incident that left two people injured has been charged with multiple offenses, according to police.

    Around 3 p.m. Saturday, police and James City County Fire Department responded to a shooting near Monticello Avenue and Greensprings Plantation Drive.

    According to police, a vehicle was turning from Centerville Road onto Monticello Avenue while the suspect, driving a red Toyota Solara, was traveling on Centerville Road toward John Tyler Highway.

    The suspect later identified as 44-year-old Joseph Adams, of Surry County, fired multiple shots in the victims’ vehicle before fleeing the scene, according to police.

    First responders rushed to the intersection of Monticello Avenue and Greensprings Plantation Drive, where the victims’ vehicle had come to a stop, and began lifesaving treatment.

    A woman was airlifted to VCU Medical Center via LifeEvac with life-threatening injuries, and a juvenile was transported by ground to Riverside Regional Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries. Meanwhile, the third occupant of the vehicle was unharmed.

    On Sunday, James City County police announced that Adams had been charged with the following offenses:

    • Two (2) counts of Aggravated Malicious Wounding
    • Three (3) counts of Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony
    • Five (5) counts of Reckless Handling of a Firearm
    • One (1) count of Driving Under the Influence
    • Five (5) counts of Shooting at a Vehicle
    • Five (5) counts of Shooting from a Vehicle
    • Three (3) counts of Brandishing a Firearm

    Joseph Adams was initially arrested for DUI and transported to the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.
