3 brothers sentenced to 4-8 years in prison for mob assault, robbery at Ocean View motel

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Three brothers were sentenced to serve between four to eight years in prison after assaulting and robbing a man at an Ocean View motel in 2023.

According to officials, on Aug. 15, 2023, 27-yer-old Kevin Kaikeem Jefferson approached a man at the Ocean View Inn and accused the victim of being associated with his girlfriend on social media. Kevin left after the victim denied any involvement.

The next day, Kevin, alongside his two brothers, 19-year-old Kailub Daionte Jefferson and 25-year-old Khory Dalandre Jefferson, approached the victim again. Police said the victim then offered to show Kevin his social media accounts to check.

Kevin then sucker punched the victim, starting a fight, according to police. Eventually, the victim pulled out a knife, ending the fight.

While the victim was leaving the scene, Khory displayed a firearm and accused the victim of stealing from Kevin, leading to the three brothers committing a “felony mob assault” for several minutes.

Police said that, during the mobbing, the victim was kicked in the head, beat with the gun and robbed of personal items including jewelry, car keys and sneakers.

The victim then crawled across a busy five-lane roadway and broke into a nearby residence to escape from the three brothers. The entire incident was caught by motel security cameras, police said.

As a result of the assault, all three brothers were charged with maliciously wounding by mob assault, robbing by force and use of a firearm in the commission of a robbery. Since Khory was previously convicted for unrelated charges, he was also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The sentencing of the Jefferson brothers can be found below:

• Khory Jefferson : Eight years in prison and suspended three additional years
• Kaliub Jefferson : Four years in prison and suspended two additional years
• Kevin Jefferson : Seven years in prison and suspended three additional years

According to a release, all of the suspended sentences are conditioned upon the uniform good behavior of the defendants following their release and having no contact with the victim.

“Assembling the evidence for a single jury trial takes work,” Commonwealth’s Attorney Ramin Fatehi said. “Doing so for three co-defendants is much more complicated, and it requires extra preparation and care. I am glad that the victim is doing better now, because what these brothers did to him was dangerous and could have turned out much worse. Now each of these brothers must serve time in prison that measures up to their part in this violent and unnecessary crime.”
