NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A new change is coming to your Dominion Energy bill. The goal of the new layout is to allow customers to find information faster.

When you put the two bills side by side, there are noticeable changes to the new layout: the use of graphs to show energy usage over time and the addition of color. While it may look different, the content is the same.

“We want customers to know that while the design of the bill has changed, the way that their energy usage is calculated has not changed,” said Cherise Newsome, a spokesperson for Dominion Energy.

The new layout does not change how much you pay for each month, but it could help you save money.

Newsome said those graphs can help users understand their bills. One of the graphs shows the average high and low temperatures from the previous year.

“They can understand why their energy usage may be going up, and then they can make adjustments if needed,” Newsome said.

Dominion said it used customer feedback to improve how people read their bills. The redesign is already rolled out.

“Customers told us they want more information in a simpler, cleaner format. So Dominion Energy has redesigned residential electric bills in Virginia and in North Carolina,” Newsome said.

Another feature of the new layout is the QR code on each bill. Dominion says the QR code helps customers not get scammed by fake Dominion websites. It creates a secure place for people to pay their bills.

“There have been scams, for example, where scammers have taken a Dominion Energy website and created a look-alike website, or taken a phone number and used a similar phone number,” Newsome said. “And so for customers who may be typing in that website address, and they make a mistake or typo, they could go to a scam site, but having that QR code helps them to go directly to the payment portal.”

The new layout will apply to everyone who gets a bill in their mailbox or even an E-bill.
