CURRITUCK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — One of Currituck County’s medical examiners are deploying to NC to assist with efforts in Asheville.

Captain Stephanie Smith is assisting the NC Office of Emergency Management in western North Carolina after Hurricane Helene caused significant damage.

The team will be reporting initially to Asheville, NC and will be deployed for one week to provide critical support in the aftermath of the hurricane.

“Their mission is crucial to helping our neighbors recover, and we are honored to have Captain Smith representing Currituck in this vital effort,” a release states. “Please join us in wishing Captain Smith and her team a safe deployment. Let’s show our support as they step up to help those in need!”
