ROANOKE, Va. ( WFXR ) – The Virginia Department of Forestry is tracking the color change of the trees this fall.

The peak season for fall foliage can vary depending on temperature and rainfall but usually occurs between October 10 and October 31.

The report states the foliage remains green meaning there is no change with high elevations and exposed ridges are reaching partial levels of just 40%.

Most of the tree leaves were knocked down due to the impact of Hurricane Helene which has paused some of the foliage changes and the area is continuing to experience the “great fade.” During this time, a loss of chlorophyll precedes the change to yellow and continues throughout the state.
