Large fire breaks out at Chesapeake apartments

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Firefighters have responded to a large fire that burned through the roof of an apartment building in Chesapeake.

It’s at the Thrive Place Apartments, off George Washington Highway at Gilmerton Road, per Robert Warren with the Chesapeake Fire Department.

Chopper 10 flew over the scene on Wednesday afternoon and saw firefighters using multiple ladder trucks to spray water onto the roof. 10 On Your Side is working to learn more, including if anyone is hurt.

Meanwhile that section of Gilmerton Road has been closed , with no estimated time for reopening.
