COROLLA, N.C. (WAVY) — A Corolla wild horse turned into a Pegasus on Tuesday, gaining its wings after its death and leaving a rainbow in its wake.

Mocha, a wild horse in her late 20s, was euthanized after living most of her life in the marsh. The mare was a force of nature despite being blind in one eye.

The horse was seen by contractors working on a house who then called the Corolla Wild Horse Fund. It was determined that the horse was unable to get up and a vet soon came to peacefully put her to sleep.

“She was the kind of horse you feel guilty touching even after death, because she would have never wanted nor tolerated that in life,” the nonprofit organization said, in a social media post.

She was laid to rest in a secluded spot of her home. A rainbow was seen the following morning at the spot she died.

“We’d like to think it was a thank-you for respecting her wildness and letting her live and die with the dignity she deserved, and a reminder to stay hopeful for the future of this herd,” the post said.

all the horses should be respected. the hummers doing the horse tours and all the homes going further and further up the beach should all be haulted. we've already invaded them enough I think the community needs to back off a little bit and allow the wild to be just what it is supposed to be. I don't feel people should step into the animals lives unless it is an animal who won't be able to survive in the wild.
