(NBC) — Comedy returns to NBC Friday nights starting this week with the premiere of “Happy’s Place,” followed by a new season of “Lopez vs. Lopez.”

The show is inspired by the real-life reconciliation between George Lopez and his daughter Mayan, with the new season leading up to a big event.

The opening titles of “Lopez vs. Lopez” honor the passage of time between George Lopez and Mayan.

“Sometimes after a live show, we’ll look at each other and we’re doing, like we’re really doing this,” said Mayan.

Moments they appreciate even more because they spent years not even talking.

“Even when I think the show first started, we weren’t really very close,” said George. “I’ve let her kind of do her work, which she’s amazing at.”

“A sitcom doesn’t solve everything and it’s like, you still work with your dad, but I love every single day,” said Mayan.

And love is truly in the air after last spring’s proposal. Now, the new season finds Mayan and Quentin’s ideal wedding plan may not match up with George’s, especially when it comes to the music.

“I’m such a huge KISS fan, I’ll take KISS in whatever size they come in,” said George.

And even if it is just a TV wedding she’s planning, Mayan still finds it stirs genuine emotions.

“I’ve never seen myself in a wedding dress, and my dad came out, and he was kind of, you know, he was getting teary-eyed, and that’s something, an emotion that I thought that I would feel when I got there,” said Mayan. “But you know what? I appreciate the sneak preview.”

And until Mayan’s real-life matrimony comes, laughs about a TV one will suffice.

“Lopez vs. Lopez” returns Friday at 8:30 p.m. on NBC4, right after the premiere of “Happy’s Place” starring Reba McEntire.
