‘Very emotional, very heartfelt:’ Reba McEntire reunites with former co-star in new comedy series ‘Happy’s Place’

(NBC) — As if “The Voice” and her music career don’t keep her busy enough, Reba McEntire returns to TV comedy Friday night with “Happy’s Place.”

“Happy’s Place” star Belissa Escobedo said auditioning for “Happy’s Place” with Reba McEntire was overwhelming.

“I was really nervous but right away when I walked in, she was so welcoming, so warm,” said Escobedo. “I gave her a big ole hug and yeah, it took away any nervousness that I had.”

Escobedo earned the role of Isabella, a surprise sibling for Reba’s character Bobby.

“She feels betrayed,” said McEntire. “Her daddy didn’t tell her. He waits until he dies and leaves it in the will.”

His daughters are left to sort out their emotions.

“This one is such a real-life occurrence, it feels like we’re all experiencing this and so it’s really nice,” said Escobedo.

“It’s a wonderful journey that Bobby takes,” said McEntire. “Very emotional, very heartfelt.”

It’s also a journey back to comedy for the Queen of Country, reunited with her former “Reba” co-star, Melissa Peterman.

“Her friendship to me is very valuable and I love working with her,” said McEntire.

Part of an ensemble hoping to make “Happy’s Place” a Friday destination.

“Happy’s Place” premieres at 8 p.m. Friday on NBC4, followed by the Season 3 premiere of “Lopez vs. Lopez.”
