GOLDSBORO, N.C. (WNCN) – A pair of late-night shootings in Goldsboro sent two men to the hospital on Saturday, police said.

One victim has died as a result of shooting injuries on Sunday, according to an update from the Goldsboro Police Department.

According to Goldsboro police, officers responded along with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office at around 9:22 p.m. to a ShotSpotter alert and 911 calls on the 800 block of Newsome Street.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a 26-year-old Dauqan Simms who had been shot multiple times, police said.

Sims was initially transported to UNC Health Wayne, before getting flown to ECU Health in Greenville for further treatment. A spokesperson with Goldsboro police said Simms died the next day in the hospital.

Later in the night, police also responded at around 11:50 p.m. to UNC Health Wayne following a report of a gunshot victim arriving at the hospital in a private vehicle. On arrival, Goldsboro police officers said they learned that a 39-year-old man was suffering from a gunshot wound to his abdomen.

The friend who drove the victim to the hospital told officers that the shooting occurred in the area of Sixth Street and Wayne Memorial Drive in Goldsboro, according to police. The man, who’s also in critical condition, has been transferred to the ECU Medical Center.

As of Sunday, there’s no word on any suspects in connection to these shootings.

Police said the investigation into both incidents is ongoing.
