RAGBRAI riders try to shoot like Caitlin Clark to raise money for high school basketball team

WAYLAND — Can you shoot like Caitlin Clark?

WACO High School basketball players asked RAGBRAI riders to shoot from the logo — Clark's signature move — to raise money for their basketball and football programs. The sixth day of the Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa took riders nearly 85 miles from Ottumwa to Mount Pleasant, with eight towns in between.

Strong headwinds out of the southeast buffeted riders as they biked the week's longest day. But the wind did not spoil the fun in Wayland. Riders who chose to ride the optional 16-mile century loop could go through the town twice.

An Iowa basketball legend, Clark memorabilia and signage has been noticeable on RAGBRAI with several riders and residents in towns wearing her Iowa Hawkeyes or Indiana Fever jerseys.

Chayse Roth, coach of the WACO High basketball team, said the goal was to have fun by supporting RAGBRAI and hoping that riders would support them. Riders who made a shot from the logo could win a T-shirt.

"I thought we'd try to get an activity involved and see if we could get some people to donate and have fun with it," Roth said.
