RICHMOND LABOR FORCE DROPS BY 175 SINCE LAST YEAR
(Richmond, IN)--Last week, Kicks 96 and 101.7 The Point News reported that unemployment rates in Wayne County had jumped up according to the most recent figures from Indiana’s Department of Workforce Development. Now, here’s a look specifically inside the city of Richmond. Most notable is the reduction in Richmond’s labor force. The labor force is the number of people who are available to work, whether they actually have jobs or not. In the last year, according to the state, Richmond’s labor force has dropped by 175 people and stands this morning at just over 14,200 residents. According to the state, 38% of Richmond residents of all ages are working.
PARTS OF WHITEWATER VALLEY NOW CLASSIFIED AS BEING IN DROUGHT
(Whitewater Valley)--Some parts of the Whitewater Valley are now officially classified as being in a drought. According to a new map released over the weekend, much of Franklin County and the southeastern parts of Preble County are included in a moderate drought. The rest of the Whitewater Valley is classified as being abnormally dry, and that includes Richmond and Wayne County. Richmond has received just under four inches of rain since the first of June, and more than half of that came in one day.
