Second time was the charm for one Michigan man who snagged a $6 million cash prize from the second lottery ticket he bought this year.

The 32-year-old Wayne County man, who seemingly opted to remain anonymous, told lottery officials he hardly plays the numbers. The 500X Money Maker ticket he randomly bought from a local 7-Eleven store on South Groesbeck Highway in Clinton Township marked his second attempt at winning big this year, which proved successful.

"I play lottery games every once in a while, and this 500X Money Maker ticket was only the second ticket I have purchased so far this year," the player said. "I went into the store to purchase a few things and saw the 500X Money Maker game, so I asked the clerk what the ticket number was on the next ticket. When she said 14, I told her I'd take it because 14 is my wife and I's lucky number."

The player said he was shocked when he realized the ticket was a winner.

"I scratched the ticket off and, when I saw I won $6 million, I started hyperventilating! I had to take the day off work because I was in a state of shock. I texted my wife and said: 'Lucky number 14.' She jokingly replied: 'What do you mean? Are we millionaires?' As soon as I got home, I told her the big news," he said.

The family man said he plans to use the money to start a business, invest and contribute to his family. In early June, a Michigan couple and a lawyer, deemed The Breakfast Club lottery club, were announced the winners of the Powerball lottery jackpot, winning a whopping $842.4 million.

The club opted for a lump sum of $305 million cash after taxes, Suzanna Shkreli, Michigan lottery commissioner, told reporters outside the Food Castle convenience store in Grand Blanc Township where the lucky ticket was sold. Attorney Mark Harder, who is a member of the trio, said the couple has “been elated and overwhelmed, thrilled and nervous” since learning of their fortune.

“They’ve gone from shock and sleepless nights to giving careful thought as to how this once-in-a-lifetime event will transform their lives,” Harder said.

“The morning after the drawing, we heard through the news that the winning ticket had been sold here,” Harder said. "(The husband) looked up the ticket numbers on his phone, and he was so stunned he dropped his phone.” The unidentified couple said the money will provide generational wealth.

“Up until now, we’ve led a comfortable life and anticipated retiring someday,” according to the statement read by Harder. “Now, we’re not financially bound to any specific timetable. The world and our opportunities have opened up in some incredible ways.”
