Post 11 Earns Second Straight Win
BUIES CREEK — Wayne County American Legion Post 11 starting pitcher Davis Hathaway turned in five strong innings in a 4-2 win over Florence, South Carolina on Saturday. University of Mount Olive pitcher Erik Rosas pitched the final two innings for Wayne County to earn the save. Post 11 (11-6) faces Rock Hill, South Carolina on Sunday.
Charles McGhee (Charlie) Whitley
Charles McGhee (Charlie) Whitley, a native of Wayne County, passed away peacefully at Kitty Askins Hospice Center on June 11th, 2024. He was 76 years old. As part of Charlie’s final wishes, a graveside service will be held at New Hope Friends Church Cemetery on Saturday, June 15th at 3:00 pm, officiated by Rev. Andrew Hise. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.

I’m from Scott’s Store. A small neighborhood in the outskirts that is often not categorized as Duplin or Wayne County. We have Mount Olive addresses which are in Wayne County, but are mostly associated with Duplin County. I went to Duplin County Schools, and most of the people I know are in Duplin County. BUT we are still in a town that is in Wayne County. It’s very interesting to say the least. We have a very small population and only 1 flashing light. So as you can imagine there is nothing to do and not many places to eat....

WILMINGTON — Wayne County American Legion Post 11 dropped its second consecutive game with a 6-3 loss at Wilmington Post 11 on Tuesday night. Post 11 (9-6) split four games over the weekend with victories over Cherryville Post 100 and Evans, Ga., and losses to Shelby Post 82 and Columbia Post 19.
