SODUS — Wayne Action for Racial Equality has named three students from two school districts as recipients of its 2024 Timothy Barber Scholarship Awards. Top honors of $1,500 each were awarded to Leah Yonge and Danielle Carr, both from Clyde-Savannah High School. A third award of $1,000 went to Jaelyn Drain from Pal-Mac High School. The higher education scholarships are given annually to graduating Wayne County African-American high school seniors who recognize that racism is a detriment to human development and are using their talents to ensure the equal rights of all to achieve their potential.

Numbers were low in Wayne County for the Republican Primary held on Tuesday, June 25, 2024. Although a highly visible and intensely nasty race for the Congressional seat in the 24th District raged on for over a month. Candidates Claudia Tenney, the incumbent, and Mario Fratto, were only 100 votes apart in Wayne County. Out of 3472 votes cast in Wayne County, Tenney had 1770 to Fratto’s 1664. Twenty-two voters in Wayne County chose write-in candidates instead.
Lyons scores $3 million federal grant for revitalization efforts
LYONS — The money keeps rolling in for this Wayne County town as it looks to revitalize its downtown and neighborhoods. On Thursday, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York announced that Lyons is set to receive nearly $3 million out of $7.5 million awarded to six upstate New York projects through the Northern Border Regional Commission, funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure and Jobs Law.
