Free Meals Program for Wayne County Kids
On Friday, July 26, Southwest Human Resource Agency will welcome parents and caregivers from throughout the area to Wayne County Libraries for their weekly distribution of free summertime meals. The distribution of five days’ worth of breakfast and lunch food items will provide much-needed nutrition for kids and teens, in the absence of the daily meals they receive during the school year.

Teresa Nell Reatherford Folger
Teresa Nell Reatherford Folger was born September 15, 1958 in Wayne County, TN to the union of the late Thomas Earl and Clara Nell Haddock Reatherford. Teresa was united in marriage to Douglas Folger on November 24, 1977. She was a person with a servant’s heart, working as a nurse in private duty nursing for many years. She proudly served as the program director at Buffalo River Services for many years. When she was not working, she enjoyed spending time gardening. She truly had a green thumb and was able to make anything grow! When the garden came in, she spent a lot of time canning, especially green beans. Mrs. Teresa loved to cook and especially loved to spend time with her family. She departed this life suddenly on July 2, 2024 in Columbia, TN, making her stay in this life some 65 years, 9 months, and 18 days.

Passenger in Vehicle on Traffic Stop Arrested for Meth
Breana Marie Lindley, age 22, of Lutts, TN, was arrested on Thursday, June 20 on a charge of possession of meth with intent. The report filed by Deputy Darren Pounders stated that Lindley, the passenger in Zachary Christian Norton’s vehicle, was allegedly found to be in possession of approximately 2.9 grams of methamphetamine. She was arrested and booked into the Wayne County Jail on $75,000.00 bond.
A Look Back in Time: June 1991
The year was 1991. Prices were notably cheaper on lots of goods and services, yet Wayne Countians still faced financial struggles, as did the county itself. On Saturday, June 1, 1991, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department officially shut down due to lack of funding. County law enforcement officers continued to work on a volunteer basis under the supervision of one paid county official. Sheriff’s Department personnel were effectively “laid off” until the new fiscal year budget went into effect on July 1.
John Rich Sentenced to Life Plus 30 Years for Murder and Rape
John Rich was sentenced last week to life plus 30 years in prison for the murder and rape of Brentlyn Hunt, which happened in 2020. Brentlyn was only 25 years old when she lost her life at the hands of Rich. Now, her loved ones can hopefully feel some sense of peace knowing that justice has finally been served as much as possible with Rich’s sentencing.
