    Wayne County woman dies in overnight fire

    KENOVA, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Wayne County woman has passed away as a result of a fire early Friday morning.

    The West Virginia State Fire Marshal reports that, at around 3:00am on the morning of Friday, July 26, 2024, a residential fire occurred in the 1700 Block of Poplar Street in the Kenova area.

    Authorities have confirmed the death of an an individual – identified at the time of writing only as an adult female – as a result of the incident.

    The origin of the fire is unknown at the time and the situation is currently the subject of an investigation by the West Virginia State Fire Marshal.

    The unidentified Wayne County woman has been transported to the offices of the West Virginia State Medical Examiner for identify confirmation.

    The news follows that of a similar incident in the Clendenim area of Kanawha County, where an individual was confirmed by the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office to have passed away as the result of a fire impacting a single-wide trailer.
