A family said they moved from a Nebraska town after their Black son endured racist bullying at his high school, per Lincoln Journal Star .

Lee and Brittny Graham said their son began to experience racism at school when they moved to Wayne, Nebraska in April 2023.

Students allegedly called the Black teenager racial slurs and other offensive remarks daily, including describing him as a baboon, along with monkey noises at him.

In November 2023, the Grahams' son was lying on the floor after running sprints during P.E. class when another student put his knee on the Black teenager's neck and asked him if he could breathe. The incident drew parallels to the murder of George Floyd in 2020.

“Finally, our son came to us and said, ‘I can’t do this anymore. I need you to get involved. I can’t live like this,’” Lee Graham said. “It was about to break him.”

The parents withdrew the boy from the school and ultimately decided to move from Wayne.

“It was exhausting, heartbreaking, devastating,” Graham said. “Watching our son and hoping our son is not permanently injured emotionally and that he can process through this.”
