There will be magic on Main Street during Waynesboro Wizarding Weekend on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 2 and 3.

“Waynesboro Wizarding Weekend started as a way to bring people downtown to see and support our awesome businesses and celebrate people’s love of magic and Harry Potter books and movies,” said Bill Kohler, director of economic development for Mainstreet Waynesboro Inc.

“Eight years later, it’s an annual pilgrimage for many, and a great showcase for our library, movie theater, Arts Alliance of Greater Waynesboro and Main Street Park,” he continued.

Fans of magic and Harry Potter, some dressed as wizards, witches, owls and beloved characters, will find activities for all ages throughout the festivities.

Harry Potter will be on the big screen at Waynesboro Theatre with the “The Chamber of Secrets” on Friday; “The Goblet of Fire” and “The Order of the Phoenix” on Saturday; and “The Deathly Hallows, Part 2” on Sunday.

Friday features Family Fun Night at Main Street Park and a Harry Porter Pub Crawl.

There will be a Wizarding Treasure Hunt and Magical Creature Scavenger Hunt both Fridays and Saturday as well as Magical High Tea at TranquilaTEA.

    Here’s what’s happening on Saturday

Saturday is a Potter-lover’s dream with shopping at Borogon Alley in Main Street Park and photo ops, magic bingo, crafts and more in The Great Hall of Activities, 66 W. Main St. from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Borogon Alley also will be the site of performances by musician Grace Fala from 11 a.m. to noon and bubble magician River Barry at 1 p.m.

“We have added several new features this year including a LEGO Lodge, real spell classes, plant class and a visit by Ellie Darcey-Alden, who played a role in several flashbacks in ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2,’” Kohler said.

Favorites such as Wizards and Witches Storytime, Wand Workshops and Potion Paint Parties (kids in the morning, adults in the afternoon) are also on the agenda.

And who wouldn’t want to make their own Troll Bogey during afternoon STEAM sessions at Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library?

Other hands-on creative opportunities are planned at various downtown locations.

All the while folks should be keeping an eye out for Dementors, Giants and a Wholloping Willow.
