    Fireworks, music, food and more: Waynesboro's Sunset Spectacular scheduled for Saturday

    WAYNESBORO — A week after Staunton celebrated the Fourth of July, Waynesboro will hold its own summer celebration Saturday, July 13.

    A special fireworks display will be shot off from the top of Sunset Park, providing a spectacular view from just about anywhere in Waynesboro. Waynesboro Parks and Recreation said in a release that if you can see Sunset Park, then you'll be able to see the fireworks. The fireworks are scheduled to begin at 9:40 p.m.

    Sunset Park will be closed to the public Saturday in preparation for the fireworks display.

    Beginning at 5 p.m. at Constitution park there will be food available from Holy Smokes BBQ, Sooners BBQ, Happy Sips Tea and Lemonade, Lucky Duck Kettlecorn, and Kona Ice.

    Nelson County-based country artist Jacob Paul Allen and The Flood will perform from 5:30-7 p.m. Saturday. Then, from 7:30-9:30 p.m. The SkillBilly's will be playing at Constitution Park.

    On Saturday morning, the festivities will kick off with a 5K and 10K race beginning in Waynesboro's Ridgeview Park near The Serenity Garden. Friday is the last day to register. There is no same-day registration.

    The Sunrise Spectacular 5K & 10K offers a challenging run through the beautiful neighborhoods of Waynesboro. Runners receive a race day t-shirt, fully stocked aid stations, and a post-race party with food and drink, and an awards ceremony.

    Part of the race proceeds at this years race will be supporting Relay for Life. Your contributions will help support lifesaving cancer research programs as well as local and statewide mission programs that are free of charge to cancer patients and their families. These mission programs include transportation to treatment, free wigs and scarves, access to information about cancer diagnosis and treatment, and lodging during cancer treatment
