    Severe thunderstorm located near Waynesboro

    At 6:48 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located over Sherando, or near Waynesboro, moving east at 15 mph. A severe thunderstorm warning was then issued at 6:55 p.m. for northeastern Nelson, west central Albemarle, southeastern Augusta counties and Waynesboro from the National Weather Service.

    Locations impacted include: Waynesboro, Stuarts Draft, Sherando, Wintergreen, Afton, Lyndhurst, Nellysford, Greenfield, Greenwood and Afton Mountain.

    HAZARD: 60 mph wind gusts

    HAIL THREAT: Max hail size no greater than 3/4 inch

    SOURCE: Radar indicated

    IMPACT: Damaging winds will cause some trees and large branches to fall. This could injure those outdoors, as well as damage homes and vehicles. Roadways may become blocked by downed trees. Localized power outages are possible. Unsecured light objects may become projectiles.

    PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS: For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.
