(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A 26-year-old man was taken into custody in northwest Indiana one day after a teenage girl was stabbed at a baseball game over the weekend.

The Lake County Sheriff's Department said the 14-year-old girl was stabbed with a butcher knife while watching her brother’s baseball game in unincorporated Lowell, Ind., on Saturday. The teenager was expected to be OK.

On Sunday, officials said the 26-year-old fled the scene and was spotted in the southern part of Lake County. An officer managed to arrest the man after he ran through a cornfield near 120th Street and Iowa Drive.

Prior to his arrest, authorities said they believe the man was in the process of cutting his hair in an attempt to change his appearance.

The sheriff's department said the man had been deported to Honduras in 2018, and they accused him of returning to the country illegally.

Officials said the U.S. Department of Homeland Security was notified of his arrest.
