CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Suburban authorities have charged a Chicago man with shooting and killing four people who were asleep on a Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) Blue Line train on Monday.

Officials said 30-year-old Rhanni Davis now faces four counts of first degree murder, which were approved by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office on Tuesday.

Police said they received a call shortly before 5:30 a.m. about a shooting that took place inside a CTA Blue Line train as it rolled toward Forest Park Station, located at the end of the line.

Three of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene. A fourth was transported to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where they were pronounced dead.

Although the shooter fled the scene of the crime, Forest Park police said they were able to work with CTA security to locate the offender using video surveillance. The Chicago Police Department later identified someone who matched the shooter’s description on a CTA Pink Line train, and the suspect was taken into custody.

A gun was recovered in the arrest, officials said.

In the wake of Monday's shooting, several CTA riders shared their thoughts with WBBM Newsradio. Kelsey Thompson said the shooting "shakes you up."

"It does, absolutely," she said. "Forest Park is a really cool community, and that's what we want to be in the news for. It's definitely scary, and coming through there this morning, you could kind of feel it in the Blue Line station; you could feel folks were, kind of, more on edge than usual."

Thompson said she didn't notice an increase in security on the Blue Line or at the station, but she noted that it was early in the day when she rode the train.

Although Mayor Brandon Johnson said that the shooting was an indication that access to guns was out of control, one passenger told WBBM: "It's not the guns; it's the anger."

WBBM Newsradio will have more on this story Tuesday night after officials brief the media at 7 p.m.
