(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Naperville school bus driver is facing a DUI charge in connection to a school bus crash in Lombard Monday.

The DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said 34-year-old Lauren B. Williams was charged with felony aggravated DUI for crashing a school bus while under the influence.

The state's attorney said the bus went up on a curb and crashed into a junction box near St Charles Road and Elizabeth Street shortly before 1 p.m.

The bus, which transports mentally disabled children, did not have any kids on it, just Williams and a bus aide. Officials said the bus had just finished dropping off its last transports.

“The allegations that Ms. Williams was under the influence of an intoxicating substance while she was driving a school bus full of children are disturbing,” Berlin said in a released statement.

“The type of behavior alleged in this case that put the lives of the children on the bus, as well as those of the motoring public in danger will not be tolerated in DuPage County. Thankfully, there were no children aboard the bus at the time of the crash and Ms. Williams’ alleged actions did not harm anyone.”

Williams is set to appear in court on Oct. 7.

The school bus companies are always hiring too. Apparently, they're having a hard time finding decent people
