(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — DeKalb police said a dispute over peanut butter and jelly turned violent on Sunday, with one man ending up in the hospital and another behind bars.

Javaughn Owens is no stranger to police. The 23-year-old has prior convictions for aggravated robbery and burglary, and this weekend, DeKalb police said he picked up new charges of first-degree attempted murder.

Investigators said it happened Sunday afternoon on South 7th Street near Southmoor Drive. Owens and another man got into an argument, which turned physical. Police said Owens stabbed the man with a butter knife several times.

According to the Daily Chronicle , a witness told officers the argument was over the victim’s use of peanut butter and jelly, which had been left out on the counter.

The witness took the victim to a Chicago hospital for treatment.

Owens  was ordered to be detained at the DeKalb County Jail and is expected to appear in court in October.
