(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Months after a 17-year-old girl was fatally struck by a train in Barrington , her family is taking legal action.

“Marin Lacson was tragically killed on Jan. 25 of this year when she was attempting to cross the Hough Street railroad crossing in Barrington,” said Attorney Jim Pullos with Clifford Law Offices.

The law office is representing Lacson’s family who are now suing the Union Pacific Railroad Company, Metra and Village of Barrington.

Marin Lacson was on her way to school. There were trains going in opposite directions, and it was foggy.

“There were no pedestrian gates or other pedestrian safety measures at that particular railroad crossing that would alert someone like Marin that there were simultaneous approaching and departing railroad trains that were operating on that line.”

Because of that, Pullos calls Lacson’s death completely preventable.

“The family certainly understands that there’s nothing that’s going to bring their daughter back, but they do hope that by improving the safety and protecting others from something like this from ever happening, that Marin’s death wouldn’t be in vain.”

WBBM Newsradio has reached out to those named in the lawsuit for comment.

It's sad but she really was responsible for it.
