CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A recently restored Chicago theater has now received landmark status.

The Ramova Theatre, which reopened last year after sitting vacant for nearly 40 years, officially was approved for landmark designation by the City Council on Wednesday.

The Ramova in Bridgeport was built in 1929 and closed in 1985.

Now, the newly renovated complex, including an adjacent building, is home to a 1,500 person capacity music venue, a brewery and a restaurant.

The landmark designation will preserve the theater's historic sign and marquee as well as all of the complex's outside elevations.
