LOMBARD (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Parents at a west suburban high school say they're concerned after receiving a series of email threats over the past couple of weeks.

This all started on September 10 when the principal of Glenbard East High School said a loaded gun was found in a school bathroom. In the days following, two more incidents occurred, including social media threats that led the school to be placed on a secure status.

Glenbard East parent Katie LaCounte told CBS News Chicago that she does not feel that students are safe.

“Three incidents have happened in a matter of two weeks,” Lacounte said. “This could have turned out a lot worse.”

At a board meeting Monday night, parent Carmel Ludwig listed her suggestions for preventing future threats.

“Find some dollars for metal detectors, I would say clear backups, things that are going to keep our students safe,” Ludwig said.

Officials said a student was identified and detained for leaving the gun in the bathroom, and the social media threat was unfounded.
