Illinois university ranked in top 10 of best colleges

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — An annual ranking of the best colleges has one Illinois university ranked in the top 10.

Northwestern came in at number six in this year's U.S. News and World Report ranking of best colleges.

It was the highest ranking of any Illinois school, but more than a dozen other colleges in the state made the list.

The University of Chicago came in at number 11 and University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign was 33rd on the list.

The top three in order are: Princeton University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Harvard University.

The ranks released Tuesday also include rankings based on social mobility for both universities and liberal arts colleges. Topping that category for liberal arts colleges is Illinois’ Lake Forest College.

U.S. News and World Report says it uses a system with 17 key metrics to rank colleges.
