(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Chicago area is starting to get a tiny taste of some of the remnants of Hurricane Helene.

“This hurricane is actually a pretty special and rather rare circumstance,” says National Weather Service Meteorologist Kevin Doom.

He says Hurricane Helene combined with a low pressure system that had already been in the lower Midwest leaving the Chicago area with some windy and rainy conditions over the next couple of days.

“We’re going to see some mainly wind and a little bit of rain out of it. Wind is the big story today, wind gusts upwards of around 30, 35, maybe 40 miles an hour near the city. And then a little bit of rain coming tonight and then tomorrow some scattered showers off and on mainly through the weekend,” Doom says.

Doom says most rain will be south of I-80 and east of I-55 but that the entire Chicago area could see some rain over the weekend.

The meteorologist says the rain and heavy winds will be hanging out for another few days in southern Illinois and Tennessee.
