(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — If your credit card has been declined while shopping online, beware because scammers are inclined to steal your personal information.

Fraudsters are using emails, text messages, and pop-up ads promising great deals, just to steer people to fake business websites.

Then shoppers are told that their credit card has been declined, and when they enter a new card, fraudsters can make unauthorized purchases in their name.

Don’t be fooled by great offers. Always check business ratings and reviews before you send money. Online shopping has been the number one scam over the past three years.

And, if you receive a suspicious declined credit card message, stop the transaction and contact your credit card company to confirm the issue.
