(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias opened what’s being called a DMV Plus office at the driver’s license facility in Melrose Park on Thursday.

Giannoulias says the Melrose Park Facility at 1903 N. Mannheim Road is the first such facility in the Chicago area.

“The one stop shop allows customers to obtain both driver and vehicle services at a single counter through a single appointment. This means customers don't have to wait in line and don't have to move from station to station to receive assistance,” Giannoulias said.

“Because the entire premise of one stop shop is to reduce the number of steps to create a more intuitive flow. It also frees up space for additional service stations and appointments to accommodate more customers.”

People can also take care of other Secretary of State business at the office, with the Business, Index and Personnel Departments, avoiding a trip downtown or to Springfield.

“Some of these services include obtaining certified copies of business records, filing Articles of Incorporation and amendments for various types of LLCs, restoring businesses to good standing, and getting documents needed for things such as adoption or international business certification,” Giannoulias said.
