Mayor Johnson says Chicago is ready for the DNC, predicting a safe convention

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Mayor Brandon Johnson is predicting a safe, productive Democratic National Convention with protesters having their voices heard.

Mayor Johnson says there’s a reason Time Out magazine listed Chicago as the best convention city in the country because Chicago is good at it.

“The world will get a chance to experience and see what the people of Chicago have always known. We are truly the greatest freakin’ place in the world.

“This is not the largest event that we are hosting. We’ve actually hosted larger scale events. And so, I’m very confident we’ll be able to pull that off as we always have.”

The mayor says the Chicago Police Department is working with other federal and local law enforcement agencies to ensure a safe convention and he says demonstrators will not be quieted.

“We want to make sure we protect their rights and make sure that they can do it in a safe way and in an environment that allows their voices to be maximized and heard.”

The mayor goes on to point out, “As far as staging, microphones and all that, that is being provided. We’re working out the details around Port-A-Potties. I want to make sure that these individuals have everything that they need to make sure that their voices are heard.”

The Democratic National Convention that begins on Monday will mark the 26th time the city of Chicago has hosted a Democratic or Republican Party National Convention since 1860.
