(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Five people were hospitalized Friday night in a crash involving a stolen car in the Edison Park neighborhood on Chicago’s Northwest Side.

A police helicopter was following the stolen vehicle. It had been spotted or flagged at the street level. It was about 10:30 p.m.

The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed westbound on Touhy Avenue, according to police. Near Oriole Avenue the driver lost control and crashed into a car driven by a woman.

The driver of the stolen vehicle, a 21-year-old man, had injuries to his spine and leg and was hospitalized in critical condition.

Four others, three females and one male, were treated for minor injuries.

Police say a gun was recovered from the stolen vehicle. Criminal charges and citations are expected.
