CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Chicago White Sox were shut out for the 15th time of the season on Sunday, as they fell to the New York Mets 2-0 and lost a franchise-worst 107th game.

The history-making loss was the team’s 10th straight defeat, which means the White Sox are now responsible for the league’s three longest losing streaks of the season. The Sox previously lost 14 games in a row and later surpassed that number with a 21-game losing streak.

On Sunday, the only White Sox players to record a hit were first baseman Gavin Sheets and third baseman Miguel Vargas. Both hits came against Mets starting pitcher Sean Manaea, who struck out five batters and threw seven innings.

White Sox starting pitcher Garrett Crochet, who’s been one of the lone bright spots for the team this season, struck out eight batters but was pulled in the fourth inning after giving up one run.

At 31-107, the White Sox are 47.5 games back from the Cleveland Guardians, who lead the American League Central with a record of 78-59. Not since the Great Depression have the White Sox been so far behind the division leader.

With 24 games left in the season, the White Sox are 14 away from setting the modern-era, single-season record for losses, which was set by the 1962 Mets. The Sox would need to almost triple their paltry .225 winning percentage to avoid such infamy.
