(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The former head of the unit that investigates possible wrongful convictions in the Cook County State's Attorney's Office has filed a lawsuit against Kim Foxx, accusing her of racial and age discrimination.

Nancy Adduci claims she was stripped of her title and pay as director of the Conviction Integrity Unit, yet expected to continue doing the work. In a meeting with Foxx’s first assistant and chief deputy last October, Adduci says they told her the move had nothing to do with her performance and Foxx wanted to appoint someone who was “more representative of the community”.

In her lawsuit filed last month, Adduci, who is white, says despite being highly respected and widely renowned, she says she was fired in December. She was 22 months shy of retirement and had been an employee for 27 years.

Adduci is seeking lost wages and damages for distress and loss of her reputation.

A spokeswoman for the state’s attorney says they don’t comment on pending litigation or personnel matters.
