JOLIET (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A Joliet Police detective turned himself in on Wednesday following an alleged domestic violence incident that occurred last weekend.

Joliet Police were called to the home of Detective Peter Ranstead, just after midnight last Saturday. A statement from police said there had been a confrontation with his wife.

It's alleged that he grabbed her by the shoulders and shoved her into a door frame causing her to hit her head.

When she tried to call 911, police say, he took the phone.

    She eventually did call 911.

Ranstead, 41, was gone when police arrived.

An arrest warrant was issued for two counts of domestic battery and one count of Interference, with the reporting of domestic violence.

He turned himself in early Wednesday.

    He’s now on administrative leave.

“The community expects us to lead by example, and when one of our own fails to meet these expectations, it affects us all,” Police Chief Bill Evans said in a statement.

Nothing will happen to him. That's why he turned himself in at Kendall county. No arrest and free to go.. They will not request that he surrender his FOID and weapons. In fact he is going to threaten her and tell her his friends will look out for him and turn their head the other way..She will recant her story here in a few days
