Another FAFSA delay impacts high school seniors, parents

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The U.S. Department of Education says for the second-straight year, there will be a delay in rolling out financial aid forms for high school students. One financial adviser says the key this time around is patience.

Unlike last year, where the rollout was delayed until January, Michael Shaver of the Financial Guys says the wait won't be so long.

"Last year was Jan. 1. This year, it is now Dec. 1," said Shaver, who notes the forms normally go out in October.

Shaver adds the Department of Education is inviting a few families, but they have to be invited via email to test it out.

The Education Department has one promise, according to Shaver.

"They promise the part of education will send out immediately the FAFSA information to the colleges of their choice," Shaver said with WBEN.

The key for several high school seniors and parents impacted by this decision will be patience.

"They'll be able to get through it. It'll be definitely something that once they attempt to go through the site and they complete it, I think the anxiety level will come down, and they'll be happy," Shaver added.
