Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Buffalo police have made an arrest in connection to the stabbing that took place inside McKinley High School on Monday along Elmwood Avenue in the City of Buffalo.

After a fight broke out between three students inside a stairwell at the school at around 1:10 p.m. ET, a 15-year-old male student ended up being stabbed several times.

Police took the other two students in the incident into custody for further questioning. Later Monday night, the department announced charges filed against one of the two students, also a 15-year-old male. He is facing one count of felony assault and and one county of criminal possession of a weapon.

Officers say they recovered the knife believed to have been used in the stabbing at the scene.

The victim is being treated for serious injuries at Oishei Children’s Hospital and is listed in serious, but stable condition. Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia said earlier Monday the student is expected to survive the injuries to his neck, back and arm.
