Mother claims daughter died by suicide after being bullied

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - A group rallied behind a mother Thursday as she mourns the death of her daughter. Sarena Worthy says her daughter died by suicide, adding she couldn't take the bullying anymore at school.

Worthy's daughter, Desire Williams, was sexually assaulted by another student in 2022. She says that attack was recorded and shared.

"Desire has been working hard since she was this little. She used to run a lemonade stand, she has several different businesses. She's loving, caring, genuine. She was an angel on Earth," said Worthy during Thursday's rally for her daughter.

Worthy wants the school to follow the New York State law, and record and monitor everything to make sure it's all being documented.

"So if something happens to somebody's child, a tragedy happens to somebody's child, we could come back to the school and come get the documents and the paperwork," Worthy urged.

Another parent says the student who attacked Williams attacked other girls, describing the suspect as a monster.

Jammell Brooks Jones says the problem is when you stand up for yourself, people don't like it.

"They need more support systems in this school, because so many people, so many parents, so many children have been failed to the system, and I believe that these teachers need to bring more children into the school who really care about these children," said Jones, who says she, too, has been bullied.

She contends the school broke the law by not addressing bullying.
