Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - It is that time of year, as Frightworld is back up and running along Hertel Avenue for the 2024 scare season in Western New York!

With the month of scaring just a few days away, the countdown to Halloween has already begun. For those who can't wait for Oct. 31st, Frightworld, America's Scream Park is up-and-running for its 22nd season in North Buffalo.

"We are America's biggest and best indoor scream park," Trevor Feger, general manager of Frightworld. "Our scream park consists of five award-winning haunted houses. We have our Grind House, Erie State Asylum, Insanity Carnival, Boneyard, and our Night Stalkers haunted attractions."

Everyone's preferences change over time alike to how people are scared. Feger says that is always on the mind of those in charge at Frightworld.

"We're always evolving," he said. "We're always researching new trends that are going on in horror and pop culture, trying to get in those new themes that our customers want to see, and also doing new scare techniques. So every single year you come to Frightworld, you're going to see new and different scares."

Feger loves to scare patrons, although some will not end up making it through the haunted houses.

"We do have emergency exits located within each haunted house, if somebody does get too scared," Feger noted. "I will say that people go in and out of those doors pretty much every single night because they are too scared. So it's pretty funny to watch it as an actor. It shows that you did your job."

With the month of scaring just days away, Frightworld has a few special events centered around the Halloweekend.

"Our first one is not so scary. It's our Little Frights with Lights event. That's a family-friendly trick or treating event. The kids can come in and trick-or-treat through the houses. The lights are all on. The monsters are not allowed in the building," Feger said. "It's a great event for kids to get acclimated to the haunted houses. We encourage that they come in costume for trick or treating, and a portion of the proceeds for the event go to the Punt Pediatric Cancer Collaborative"

After that event passes, the scaring gets sent to new heights with the Lights Out event the following weekend.

"That is our scariest, most intense event of the season," Feger said. "We take all the lights inside the haunted houses, turn them off, and give you one glow stick to go through each attraction so the intensity is really ramped up. It's our most popular event of the season."

You can get your fix of jump scares all the way through the first weekend of November.
