North Tonawanda, N.Y. (WBEN) - Platter's Chocolate Factory is gearing up for "Sweetest Day."

The unofficial national holiday is celebrated on the third Saturday of October every year. Similar to Valentine's Day, Sweetest Day is meant for people to express their love and appreciation for their significant other.

Platter's vice president Heidi Urban says that because this is typically a last-minute holiday, its tends to be one of the busier times of the year.

"We will be quite crazy with people coming in to grab some of their chocolates, their sponge candy. We do offer a couple of Sweetest Day, little heart shaped chocolates and adorable little record shaped chocolate that says, 'For the record, I love you,' which is one of my fan favorites," Urban said in an interview with WBEN. "We don't do a ton, but people will still come in to get some assorted chocolates. Whatever they can do to sweeten up their honey."

With the high-demand for chocolate and sweets on Sweetest Day, Urban says Platter's has to prepare days in advance.

"We try to remind people that it's coming up, so that they don't forget about their sweetheart. We do it via social media. We have our in house production," Urban Stated. "We've already produced some some sweet products and chocolates for that, making sure that we have the inventory so we can brighten people's day on Sweetest Day."

For anyone without any plans for Sweetest Day, Urban recommends they take their significant other to Platter's for a date.

"We're a family owned business. We love for people to come here for the experience. We've got an amazing almost 8000 square foot store where you can come, you can bring your sweetheart here on Sweetest Day, get an ice cream or a specialty coffee or a box of sponge candy," Urban stated.
