with particulate scrubber technology being what it is today, retiring coal plants is stupid because they can burn cleaner than the actual natural gas plants burn and infinitely cleaner than coal plants used to burn. Sebree a lot of the plants up near Louisville and the plants in Eastern Kentucky all had been upgraded in the late 90s early 2000s and just across the river in Indiana Rockport was a clean sheet plant integrating scrubber technology but when Obama took office he shelved the permits on any remaining scrubbers upgrading plants and then forced those plants to be retired. which is stupid because while natural gas is clean burning it diverts natural gas from industrial blast furnaces as well as Home and Commercial Heating and that is patently stupid when we have 10x as much coal as Saudi Arabia has oil in Kentucky alone...
