Fauci should make a full recovery, a spokesperson told the Associated Press on the condition of anonymity due to security concerns. In a post on the social media platform X, Dr. Jonathan LaPook, chief medical correspondent for CBS News, said he spoke Saturday with Fauci, who believes he was likely infected from a mosquito bite that he got in his backyard. “Dr. Fauci was hospitalized about ten days ago after developing fever, chills and severe fatigue,” the post said, adding that Fauci spent a week in the hospital.

A healthy 41-year-old man in New Hampshire has died after contracting eastern equine encephalitis, a rare but serious virus spread by mosquitoes. The man, identified by his family as Steven Perry, tested positive for the virus known as EEE or triple E, and was hospitalized with severe central nervous system disease, the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services said on Tuesday.

The Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) virus, a rare but potentially fatal disease, has been detected in several mosquito pools across New Jersey, marking its first appearance in the state since 2019. The virus was found in Cape May, Hunterdon, Monmouth, Morris, and Union counties, according to the New Jersey Department of Health. In addition, one human case of EEE has been confirmed in the state.

In MRC Thérèse-De Blainville, a yearling tested positive for EEE on August 19 after developing clinical signs on August 2, including fever, recumbency, ataxia, and altered mental state. The horse was euthanized.
